A greater than 40% drop in the price of crude oil and subsequent fall in jet A-1 fuel prices of more than 85 cents from mid-2014 to late 2015 has generated savings in fuel spend of about $11 billion for the six major US airlines. Crude oil and fuel prices look set to fall further, and may even reach half of the current level of $66 per barrel.
