Issue 73 Dec 2010/Jan 2011

Airbus has launched the A320neo; a re-engined version of the A320. The A320neo comes with two engine options of the PW1100G and CFMI LEAP-X, and large winglets. These features are intended to deliver a fuel burn reduction of 15%, 50% lower NOx emissions, and a 50% smaller noise footprint. Airbus will market the aircraft with a $6 million higher list price compared to current A320 models. The new powerplants are claimed to also lower maintenance costs, although it is not clear how this saving will be delivered.
