The EU’s ETS programme is a system of awarding airlines allowances or quotas for CO2 emissions for their operations from 2012. To gain allowances airlines must collect data relating to fuel consumed and traffic carried, as well meeting several other criteria. The implications for airlines that come under the auspices of the scheme are examined.
