Airline & Aerospace MRO & Flight Operations IT Conference

EMEA
Conference sponsors:

Welcome

We are delighted to welcome you back to the Airline & Aerospace MRO & Flight Operations IT Conference – EMEA 2023. As well as addressing continuing industry challenges, this year’s event also has a clear focus on the future.

The pandemic was hugely disruptive and recovery remains a work in progress. Driven by that factor, those digital and paperless processes that were once considered ‘nice to have’ developments, are now ‘must have’ priorities. IT is indisputably at the heart of any modern airline; the key enabler for recovery and future prosperity. The benefits of digitization and paperless processes with integrated and enhanced IT platforms are clear for airlines, aircraft operators and MROs: now is the time to act on unlocking those benefits.

Of course the sector still faces challenges. The war in Ukraine shows no signs of ending and the global cost of living crisis is affecting the flying public in their pockets. That makes it more important than ever that airlines, operators and MROs have the most modern IT solutions in use in order to be efficient, agile, flexible and fast as possible to be prepared for any future instability or changes.

With more than 55 leading software and hardware vendors in the nearly sold-out Exhibition Hall, attendees will enjoy unprecedented opportunities to meet vendors, discuss their own challenges and priorities, and see demos of the latest and leading digital solutions. Airlines and MROs who have already embarked on post-Covid recovery and digitization by implementing new and modern IT solutions will be sharing their experiences in the conference agenda, plus there will be the established line-up of industry experts, vendor showcases, workshops, and more to help you unravel and understand this brave new world and the opportunities available to airlines, operators and MROs that embrace an IT driven future.

We are excited to welcome you and urge you to register to attend this event. We look forward to seeing you in Amsterdam in June.

Data Analytics and Intelligence Driven, Data-Informed Decision Making in Document & Safety Management
  • Location: Rotunde (iPad Draw Session)
  • Speaker: Sam Detzler, Data Product Manager, Vistair

Every airline has data that holds critically important information that could transform their performance. But accessing, managing and using it can be a huge problem, especially when it’s stored in multiple formats across different departments, making it hard to identify, investigate, analyse and share in a productive and proactive way.Sophisticated data analytics and digital decisioning tools are an absolute along with intuitive, intelligent tools for data preparation, analysis, and visualisation, helping airlines to make more data-driven decisions, faster. This session with Sam Detzler of Vistair will look at how data can be made meaningful and accessible to key team members so that can leverage data to drive greater flight operations efficiency , more ‘intelligent’ and efficient maintenance teams and also to enhance safety. Sam will talk to practical examples of data used effectively and intelligently to answer questions such as: What are the most frequently accessed documents? To ensure users have access to the right documents on the go they need to know which are the most frequently accessed. Which users are accessing which documents? To ensure outsourced maintenance is being performed correctly for example. Sam will share many other great use cases from Vistair’s work with leading airlines worldwide in this fascinating session.

How to improve real-time collaboration between airlines and ATC to reduce aircraft fuel burn and emissions thanks to predictive analytics
  • Location: Rotunde (iPad Draw Session)
  • Speaker: Francois Chazelle, Head of Sales Support – Flight Efficiency, SITA FOR AIRCRAFT

Airlines have been innovating in the field of flight efficiency by implementing solutions in the cockpit that leverage predictive analytics to help pilots capture real-time flight-specific opportunities to reduce fuel burn and emissions. Some of these opportunities, such as shortcut recommendations or achieving a more continuous descent are reliant on ATC clearances. What if the same information received by the pilots to identify flight-specific opportunities could be shared with ATC for a more collaborative approach to reducing emissions? SITA and Skysoft, the software arm of Switzerland’s ANSP SkyGuide have worked together on a prototype that would enable such collaboration and could be expanded to other ANSPs.

We make operational efficiency fly – save up to 4% fuel with PACE EFB applications
Our operational efficiency management solutions are based on the unique ability to determine the most cost-efficient, or ECON, trajectory for a specific set of flight conditions, which then serves as a point of reference for economic decisions on board as well as statistical analysis on the ground.

The leading application for EFB-based vertical flight profile optimization, Pacelab Flight Profile Optimizer complements the functional scope of current on-board technology and offers significantly higher fuel-saving potential than the flight management system alone. Calculations with Pacelab Flight Profile Optimizer are based on the best available performance data (first-principles data) and live WX and aircraft data. The software continuously determines the most cost-efficient flight trajectory for the remaining route to destination and supplies an adjusted cost index which can be fed to the FMS. Constraints provided with the briefing package are respected automatically. With the ECON trajectory as a reference, Pacelab Flight Profile Optimizer is able to pinpoint the available cost savings potential for every instant of the flight, giving concise information about fuel burn, overall cost and delay; the latter provides additional support for managing on-time performance.

Get the most out of your fleet – with Pacelab Mission Suite: Route and aircraft mission analysis software
An additional component of the PACE operations productivity catalog is Pacelab Mission Suite. Pacelab Mission Suite (PLMS) is an integrated software solution which supports stra-tegic and tactical statistical analysis of an aircraft’s enroute performance and economics.
PLMS allows the customer to tailor the analysis of payload-range and mission efficiency to the airlines specific business practices and economic models. In addition to route-by-route analysis; PLMS has the power to conduct “what if” analysis of an entire route structure with a single “click”. This is all done within a robust and proven software environment.
Our EFB and aircraft performance solutions will be presented live at our booth. For more detailed information, please get in touch with Oliver Späth (oliver.spaeth@txtgroup.com) or visit our website at www.pace.de.

  • Company:NABLA Mobility
  • Stand:17
  • Website:

NABLA mobility increases flight safety by using AI to find the optimal route around unsafe areas. Our technology locates and identifies multiple types of turbulence with unparalleled accuracy. Rather than burning more fuel, our turbulence avoidance algorithm actually saves fuel.

Safety

Turbulence is a major cause of safety incidents, with 37%. Each incident has direct financial ramifications, impacts on insurance, and damage to the brand through the negative press. Even if injuries do not occur, passenger discomfort is enough to have an impact on social media and cause headaches for customer service, driving up costs.

Pilots and flight operation teams make a tremendous effort, attempting to balance safer routes and fuel efficiency. Due to a lack of precise turbulence prediction, pilots are forced to rely on PIREPS, which may be out of date, and provide extremely limited coverage.

NABLA’s proprietary turbulence prediction model provides global coverage with a much higher degree of resolution. By combining multiple machine learning methods, our technology correctly predicts turbulence with an accuracy of <87%. This is an x7-x14 improvement over existing prediction systems.

By providing pilots, dispatchers, and operations with a better map of the sky, we increase their situational awareness. By issuing comprehensive AI-generated briefs, we provide pilots with the information they need that allows them to make safer decisions, faster.

Decarbonization

Passenger experience is prime in the success of an airline’s operational strategy. But the new responsibility of aviation is to maintain global connectivity while reducing global impact. And public perception of aviation is shifting: 36% of passengers consider flying less to reduce carbon emissions. How can we improve efficiency today, with existing fleets, and existing engines?

Providing passengers with the ability to purchase carbon offsets has limited effect. It requires them to take extra steps, and increases the cost of each flight, all while making the passenger responsible for the service provided by the airline. Simultaneously, it has been proven that passengers consider carbon emissions, when purchasing a flight, creating a clear competitive advantage for an airline’s operational efficiency.

Our technology provides immediate carbon reductions. Turbulence avoidance saves fuel by avoiding rough air. On top of this base safety objective, our technology finds an efficiency tunnel: making recommendations to avoid headwinds, catch tailwinds, and find the perfect altitude, all while accounting for time, traffic, overflight fees, and of course, fuel burn.

Fuel consumption and safety no longer need to compete. By finding the path of least resistance, our technology allows airlines to remain safe while reducing their fuel by up to 4% per flight.

Outro: resilience

The effect of scaling these optimizations, from one flight to one route to your whole fleet, is not only safer and more fuel-efficient operations, but a new level of operational resilience. The knock-on effect of cost savings means more liquidity for SAF and other sustainability efforts. Our technology integrates easily by ingesting your existing flight plans. This means we overcome complexity, avoiding the siloed, legacy information systems that challenge the operation’s ability to achieve a higher degree of efficiency.

Each individual part of our technology is based on, extends, and develops academic research, synthesizing a number of different concepts, and applying a variety of AI and ML techniques with an interdisciplinary approach. We have been lucky enough to partner directly with organizations such as the Department of Aeronautics at the University of Tokyo, JAXA, and Peach Aviation, and we took part in Boeing’s Aerospace Xcelerated.

SAFRAN AIRCRAFT ENGINES, A WORLD-CLASS AIRCRAFT ENGINE MANUFACTURER
A maker of aircraft engines for 110+ years, Safran Aircraft Engines designs, develops, produces and supports, alone or in partnership, engines for civil and military aircraft offering world-class performance, reliability and environmental-friendliness. Our business is based on a clear vision of the market, unrivaled expertise, state-of-the-art production capabilities and a complete range of maintenance services.

Through CFM International, a 50/50 joint company with GE Aerospace, Safran Aircraft Engines is the world’s leading supplier of engines for short and medium-haul commercial jets. In 2021, Safran Aircraft Engines and GE Aerospace renewed their CFM partnership through 2050.

Since the first engine was delivered in 1982, CFM has received orders for more than 51,000 CFM56 and LEAP engines from some 600+ operators worldwide, of which more than 40,000 engines have been delivered. CFM currently produces the advanced LEAP engine family to power the Airbus A320neo, the Boeing 737 MAX, and the COMAC C919.
Since the first LEAP engines entered revenue service in August 2016, the fleet has demonstrated world-class daily utilization rates while delivering a 15 to 20+ percent improvement in fuel efficiency, along with significant reductions in noise and emissions signatures. To date, the LEAP fleet has logged a total of more than 40 million engine flight hours.
Both operators and passengers demand aircraft availability, the key to efficient air transport. To allow airlines to make their operations as efficient as possible and focus on their core business, Safran Aircraft Engines offers, as part of CFM or on its own, a complete range of services and deploys a world-class international maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) network. All of our teams are fully comitted to our three-pronged objective: understand, satisfy and anticipate customer expectations, around the clock and worldwide.
In response to the urgent climate challenge, the Safran Group companies have an ambitious policy to support the transition to carbon-neutral aviation by 2050.

In June 2021, GE Aerospace and Safran launched the CFM RISE (Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines) Technology Demonstration Program as a manifestation of the deep commitment they share for achieving ambitious goals for a sustainable future.

Technologies matured as part of the RISE Program will serve as the foundation for the next generation CFM engine that could be available by the mid-2030s. Program goals include reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by more than 20 percent compared to today’s most efficient engines, as well as ensuring compatibility with alternative energy
sources like Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and hydrogen.
